About Us

We're a Community Interest Company

Not a charity. Not a regular business. A company that's legally required to put the community first.

The basics

What is a CIC?

A Community Interest Company (CIC) is a special type of limited company designed for social enterprises. It's regulated by the CIC Regulator, part of Companies House, and must demonstrate that its activities benefit the community.

Unlike a charity, a CIC can trade commercially and charge for its services. Unlike a standard limited company, a CIC has a legal "asset lock". Its assets and profits must be used for the benefit of the community, not extracted by shareholders or directors.

There are thousands of CICs in England and Wales. They range from community cafes and sports clubs to housing associations and, like us, technology support organisations.

Our decision

Why we chose this structure

  • Accountability

The CIC structure means we're accountable to clients, to the CIC Regulator, and to the wider community.

  • Community asset lock

If HTT ever closes, our assets go to another community organisation. They can't be pocketed by individuals.

  • Values-driven, not profit-maximising

We set our prices to be fair and sustainable, not to maximise shareholder returns. We have no shareholders.

  • Transparency

CICs file an annual Community Interest Report detailing how they've benefited their community. Ours is public record.

  • Trust

When clients see we're a CIC, they know we're not trying to upsell or overcharge. Our structure proves it.

  • Resilience

Unlike grant-dependent charities, we generate our own revenue. Unlike pure commercial businesses, we're mission-locked.

In practice

What this means for you

When you book a session with Hebden Tech Tutors, your money goes towards:

  • Fair wages for our team

We pay our tutors properly. Good people deserve good pay.

  • Running costs

Insurance, tools, travel, training. The things that keep us reliable and professional.

  • Community programmes

Any surplus is reinvested into free and reduced-cost sessions, Repair Cafes and community events.

  • Concessions for those who need them

We offer reduced rates because our structure makes it sustainable, not because we're doing you a favour.

What we do

Our community impact

  • Repair Cafes

We help run and support Repair Cafes in the Calder Valley. Free community events where people bring broken devices and learn to fix them.

  • Free sessions

We provide free tech support sessions for people who can't afford our standard rates.

  • Accessible pricing

Our rates are set to be affordable, starting at £30/hr, with concessions available for those who need them.

  • Knowledge sharing

Our blog, jargon translator and AI guide are all free resources. Information shouldn't be paywalled.

  • Local employment

We hire locally, train locally, and spend locally. Our team lives in the community we serve.

  • Digital inclusion

We want to make sure no one in the Calder Valley is left behind by the digital transition, especially older residents.
