We Don't Do Normal Job Interviews

Hebden Tech Tutors is a Community Interest Company. Every role below is contract, grant-funded, and open to anyone with the right passion, regardless of CV, qualifications, or career path.

We believe the best person for the job might not know they're the best person yet. Tell us why this work matters to you. That's the interview.

Open Roles

Six Contract Positions

These are not conventional jobs. They're collaborative projects with people who care about the same things we do.

Education

Curriculum Designer

Help us build retraining curriculums that work for people at every stage of life, 16, 20, 30, 40, 50 and beyond. Technology changes fast. The pathways to learn it haven't caught up. You'd change that.

  • Develop age-appropriate digital skills pathways
  • Design for real life, not academic outcomes
  • Work with tutors on ground-level feedback
Contract Grant-funded Flexible hours Calder Valley preferred

Accessibility

Sonic Audio Accessibility Specialist

We believe technology should be fully accessible through sound alone, not just screen readers bolted on after the fact. This role scopes and builds an audio-first approach to everything we do, from onboarding to tutoring to the tools themselves.

  • Audit our tools and services for audio accessibility
  • Design audio-first onboarding for visually impaired users
  • Advise on voice-interface and TTS standards
Contract Grant-funded Fully remote OK Local preferred
Apply →
Media & Storytelling

Podcaster, PR & Publicity Lead

The stories happening in our community (digital inclusion, human connection, local resilience) deserve to be told. This role puts a voice and face to Hebden Tech Tutors: podcast episodes, local press, community storytelling, and the kind of PR that doesn't feel like PR.

  • Produce and host a local-interest podcast
  • Build relationships with local and regional press
  • Tell the real stories behind the work
Contract Grant-funded Flexible hours Calder Valley based

Accessibility

Visual Accessibility Consultant

We're committed to hiring our first disabled employee in this role. If you live with visual impairment and know first-hand what breaks in technology (and what could be better), this is your seat at the table. No textbook knowledge replaces lived experience.

  • Advise on accessible design for all HTT tools and services
  • Help us build the UK's first AI-assisted accessible onboarding
  • Shape policy from lived experience, not assumption
Contract Grant-funded Fully remote OK Disability access role

Education / Philosophy

AI Philosopher

The 16-24 year olds in our community will spend their working lives alongside AI. They deserve a curriculum that takes that seriously, not as hype, not as fear, but as something to think clearly about. You'd build it.

  • Design a 16-24 curriculum on AI: how it works, what it changes, what it costs
  • Cover ethics, sovereignty, attention, work, consent, and what stays human
  • Run small workshops in Hebden Bridge schools, colleges, and youth groups
  • Work with our existing AI Philosopher project as a living research input
Contract Grant-funded Flexible hours Calder Valley preferred

Accessibility / Education

Autism / ADHD Accessibility Consultant + Tech Tutor

The way most tech is built quietly assumes a neurotypical user. Notifications you cannot mute, settings buried under settings, instructions that move too fast and assume too much. We want someone who has lived this from the inside, who can audit our tools and our tutoring for autism-friendly and ADHD-friendly design, and who also tutors directly.

  • Audit HTT's tools, sessions, and onboarding for neurodivergent friction
  • Design tutoring approaches that work with executive-function differences, not against them
  • Tutor one-to-one with autistic and ADHD clients across all ages
  • Sit alongside our Sonic Audio and Visual Accessibility roles as the third pillar

Our Process

The Interview Won't Look Like an Interview

We care about people, not paper.

Send us a short note (email, voice message, or even a handwritten letter) explaining why this work matters to you. That's it.

No formal CV required (though send one if you'd like). No panel of strangers with a marking rubric. We'll have a conversation, on your terms.

These roles are grant-funded through our CIC structure, which means pay is dependent on successful grant applications. We'll be upfront about timeline and amounts from the start.

A Different Way to Help

Thinking About Becoming Our Competition?

Set up a Hebden-Tech-style CIC in your own area. We will give you the blueprint and walk you through the path.

If you are reading this from somewhere else in the UK, somewhere that needs the same patient, ethical, no-upselling tech support we offer in the Calder Valley, the right move might not be to apply for one of our roles. It might be to start your own.

We will give you the blueprint we used: the legal structure, the tutoring approach, the pricing logic, the website pattern, the AI tooling, the partnership templates. Take it. Adapt it. Build something that fits your community, not ours.

We are not trying to grow Hebden Tech Tutors into a chain. We are trying to make this kind of work possible everywhere it is needed. The CIC model rewards generosity over scale. If we help you start, we have done our job.
