When something stops working, it's stressful

A laptop that won't start. A printer that worked fine yesterday. An error message that tells you nothing useful. You might worry it's serious, or that you've accidentally broken something. In most cases, you haven't. Most tech problems have a straightforward explanation and a sensible fix. We'll take the time to diagnose it properly, tell you exactly what's wrong in plain English, and be straight with you if something needs a specialist or needs replacing.

Common questions

Do I need to bring my device to you?
No. We come to you. We visit you at home or wherever the device lives. That way we can see everything in context: the router, the printer, the setup. It usually makes diagnosis faster.
What if you can't fix it?
We'll tell you honestly. If a repair needs specialist hardware work or the device isn't worth fixing, we'll say so and give you a straight recommendation. You only pay for the time we've spent diagnosing. We won't charge you for work we haven't done.
How long does a typical visit take?
It depends on the problem. Many common issues (a slow laptop, a printer that's stopped talking to a computer, a locked account) can be sorted in an hour or less. More complex problems can take longer. We'll give you our best estimate once we've had a look.
What does "out-of-hours" mean?
Out-of-hours visits (evenings and weekends) are charged at £50 for the first hour, then £40/hr after that. Standard visits during the working week are £30/hr. If you're not sure which applies, just ask when you get in touch.
I think I have a virus. Is it serious?
It might be, or it might be a pop-up designed to make you think you have one. We see both regularly. Don't call any number that appears on screen, don't click anything, and don't pay anyone. Get in touch and we'll come and take a proper look.
My computer is old. Is it worth fixing?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. We'll be honest with you. An older machine that's running slowly can often be improved with more memory or a solid-state drive, for well under the cost of a new computer. If it's not worth it, we'll tell you that too, and help you think through what to replace it with.
Can you recover files I thought I'd lost?
Often, yes. Deleted files, a crashed hard drive, a device that won't start: there's a reasonable chance we can recover what's there. We can't promise it in every case, but it's always worth asking before you assume the data is gone.
